I am frequently contacted by companies, who say “We put our managers through a 2 day introduction to coaching last year, and we don’t see any of them actually doing it. What is wrong?”
There are usually two things happening here.
First, coaching skills can come across to being in the first exposure, as a little woolly. Managers find themselves unsure of where exactly to start.
That is one of the main reasons why we pay so much attention to the role specific conversations we talked about in the previous sessions.

With your new coaching skills you tell (or train or teach) once, then coach them through the implementation of the new knowledge on the job.
So consider the effective start point of coaching as Guided implementation of learning.
Train once, Coach many.
This way you will have a practical start point for the conversations and application of the skill, and you will start to get considerable retrospective return on investment for all the training you have given your people in the past.
